About the book
Colin Martin and Geoffrey Parker first published The Spanish Armada in 1988, for the four hundredth anniversary. This is the thoroughly revised and much expanded edition of 2022, drawing on Martin's excavations of Armada wrecks off Ireland and Scotland and on documents Parker has since found in the Spanish, English and other archives.
Martin is a maritime archaeologist; Parker is a historian of early modern Spain and of Philip II. Between them they cover the planning, the fleets, the fighting in the Channel and the long wreck-strewn retreat round Scotland and Ireland.
