What it is

Maritime Safety Queensland publishes a series of Beacon to Beacon guides for the state's waterways, from the southern Gold Coast north to Keppel Bay. The Moreton Bay booklet covers the bay from the mouth of the Brisbane River across to Amity Point and north to Caloundra and Cape Moreton. Separate booklets take in Southern Moreton Bay from Jumpinpin to the Boat Passage, the Brisbane and Bremer rivers, and Pumicestone Passage.

The guides are free. They can be downloaded as PDFs from the MSQ website and printed page by page, which is what most people do - the pages are sized to slip into a standard plastic sleeve.

What is in it

Each page is a chart segment with the navigation beacons, the marked channels, boat ramps, speed-limited areas, go-slow zones and the hazards MSQ wants you to know about. The routes are drawn beacon to beacon, which is the point: a run across the bay becomes a list of marks to tick off.
