About the book

Shaun Micallef, the comedian and broadcaster, turns to the navigator who charted much of the Australian coast, circumnavigated the continent in Investigator in 1801-03, pressed for the name Australia, and then spent six years as a prisoner of the French on Mauritius on the way home. The subtitle - "a definitive and indisputable history" - gives the tone; the research underneath it is real.

The cover portrait has a cat on Flinders's head. That is Trim, the ship's cat who sailed with him and about whom Flinders wrote a memoir of his own.
