About the book

The Royal Yachting Association's main navigation textbook, written to support its shorebased Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster theory courses. It covers the chart and the compass, position fixing and dead reckoning, tidal heights and streams, pilotage into harbour, passage planning and the use of GPS and chart plotters alongside the traditional methods.

The handbook was first written by Tim Bartlett and has since been revised; the edition photographed here carries Melanie Bartlett's name.
