About the book

Michael Bright sets the sea-serpent and sea-monster reports of the past against what marine biology knew in the late 1980s about the ocean's genuinely enormous animals: the giant squid, the great whales, the whale shark and basking shark, the oarfish and the deep-sea fishes that were then only beginning to be filmed alive.

Bright was a producer with the BBC Natural History Unit and the author of many books on wildlife. The copy photographed is the 1989 Robson Books hardback.
