About the book
The second of Jack Loney's two volumes on Queensland's wrecks. The first (1982) covered 1791 to 1900; this one runs from 1901 to 1986 and takes in the Great Barrier Reef, the Coral Sea, Torres Strait and the Gulf of Carpentaria as well as the open coast.
Loney (1925-1995) was the most prolific of Australia's shipwreck historians, a Victorian schoolteacher who published dozens of regional wreck registers and the multi-volume Australian Shipwrecks. His books are brief entries rather than narratives - name, date, place, circumstances - which is exactly what makes them useful as a starting point.
