Amity Point sits on the north-western corner of North Stradbroke Island where the Rainbow Channel meets the South Passage, and its ramp is on Claytons Road beside the small harbour and jetty at Catarita Park. Two concrete lanes at an eight per cent grade, a pontoon and jetty, and toilets and picnic tables in the park; parking is on the unformed ground around it. The state register lists it as usable on all tides, and the water off the point is deep.
The current is the thing to respect. The Rainbow Channel runs at several knots past Amity on both tides, the bank falls away steeply from the shore, and the point is a well-known spot for big sharks and for people who have misjudged the flow. Launch on slack water if you can, and hold the boat to the pontoon rather than the beach. From here it is a short run to Moreton Island across the South Passage, up the Rainbow Channel to Dunwich and Peel Island, or out through the passage to the ocean when the bar allows.
