Clairview is the small beach settlement on the Bruce Highway about 120 km south of Mackay, and its ramp runs off Colonial Drive directly onto the beach. Locals put it simply: the ramp "definitely needs water". On this coast the tides reach 6.3 m on the big springs, so the beach in front of the ramp is a long way from the water at low tide, and how much tide you need depends on the boat. Six to eight metre boats are launched here, but only by people who plan the day around the top of the tide.
Parking is a shared area of 15 bays and there are no facilities at the ramp itself. Council closes the ramp occasionally to clear debris (it did so for a day in March 2025), so check the Isaac Regional Council news page if you are towing a long way. The fishing is the draw: Clairview and Carmila beaches, the offshore shoals and the Broad Sound creeks, with mud crabs in the season and mackerel offshore in winter.
There is no marine rescue base at Clairview; Marine Rescue Queensland Mackay covers the coast on VHF 16. Stinger season runs October to May, and the creeks are crocodile habitat.
