Carmila is a highway town 100 km south of Mackay, and Carmila Beach is 6 km east of it at the end of Carmila Beach Road. The ramp is on the south bank at the creek mouth, next to the council camping area (up to 14 nights, small fee), so it has toilets, barbecues and picnic tables close by, more than most ramps on this stretch.
It is a beach-and-creek ramp with all that implies on a coast where the tides run past six metres: the creek mouth empties to sand on the low, and the ramp works on the top half of the tide. Parking is unmarked on the foreshore. Locals launch six to eight metre boats here, but only with the tide table in hand. Clairview, 20 km south, has the other ramp in the district and the same limitation.
The fishing is Broad Sound fishing: barramundi, salmon and mud crabs in the creeks, mackerel and reef species offshore in the right weather. No marine rescue base is nearby; Marine Rescue Queensland Mackay monitors VHF 16. Crocodiles are present; stinger season is October to May.
