Mandalay Road runs east out of Airlie Beach along the shore to Mandalay Point, and the ramp is near its end. It is one of the four ramps Whitsunday Regional Council owns outright, but it is the least developed of them: the state register records no lane count, no car park and no facilities, and the picture on the ground is a simple concrete ramp used by locals with tinnies and small trailer boats. Treat parking as roadside and informal.
What it offers is a quiet launch straight into the northern side of Pioneer Bay, well away from the marina traffic, with the Three Plank Jetty and the Mandalay Point foreshore alongside. It is exposed to the north-easterlies, and with no breakwater it is not the place to launch a big boat in a blow. If you need lanes, a pontoon or parking, the Port of Airlie ramp is a few minutes back down the road.
Six knots applies near the moorings and swimmers; Marine Rescue Queensland Whitsunday monitors VHF 16 and 67. Stinger season runs October to May.
