This is the suburban creek ramp for Mackay's northern beaches side, tucked into McCready's Creek at the end of Apsley Way in Andergrove. It is a single concrete lane with a formed car park for about 15 rigs, and in early 2022 council fitted solar LED lighting and CCTV as part of a seven-ramp security program. There are no toilets or water on site.
McCready's Creek is a mangrove estuary that opens onto the coast between Slade Point and Shoal Point, and the state register flags the ramp as tide-limited: at low water the creek is a channel through mud, and the run to the mouth is only comfortable on the top half of the tide. Mackay's tides exceed six metres on the springs, so the difference between the two halves of the day is large.
The creek itself fishes for bream, flathead, salmon and mud crabs, and it is a popular tinnie and kayak launch. For an all-tide launch with lanes and a walkway, the Mackay Marina ramp on Mulherin Drive is ten minutes away. Marine Rescue Queensland Mackay monitors VHF 16; crocodiles are present in the creek.
