Pleystowe is a cane district about 20 km west of Mackay, once home to the Pleystowe sugar mill, and the Pioneer River here is fresh water impounded behind the Dumbleton Weir downstream. The ramp and its pontoon are down a short access road off the Pleystowe Connection Road on the river's south side. It is the only launch in the region on the river's non-tidal reach, so the tide table is irrelevant; what matters is the river level, which drops in the dry and rises fast after rain in the ranges.
The state register records the ramp as council-owned but carries no lane count or parking figure, and there are no facilities beyond the pontoon. Treat it as a single-lane ramp with informal parking on the bank.
The water above the weir is used by ski boats, canoes and kayaks, and by anglers after sooty grunter, barramundi and the odd saratoga in the deeper pools. Platypus are seen in the quieter stretches upstream towards Marian. Check the Bureau's Pioneer River height gauges before you go if there has been rain. There is no marine rescue cover on the freshwater reach; emergency is 000.
