Dunnrock is a handful of houses at the end of the road south of Bakers Creek, about 20 km from Mackay, with a population of under 60. The ramp is a single concrete lane on the north bank of Sandy Creek with a small car park for about 15 rigs and nothing else: no toilets, water or lighting. The state register flags it as tide-limited.
Sandy Creek is a mangrove estuary between the Pioneer River mouth and Hay Point, and it is essentially a creek fishery: barramundi, salmon, jack, bream and mud crabs, best worked on the run-in and run-out. The mouth is shoal and the run to open water is only for the top of the tide in a boat that can take the coast. Most people who launch here stay inside.
Fuel and supplies are in Mackay; there is nothing at Dunnrock. Marine Rescue Queensland Mackay monitors VHF 16. Crocodiles are present in the creek; stinger season is October to May.
