Campwin Beach and Grasstree Beach face each other across the mouth of Cabbage Tree Creek, about 40 km south of Mackay, and each has a ramp. Campwin's is the smaller: a single concrete lane on the south bank with an unformed parking area. The state register flags it as tide-limited, and the creek mouth dries to sand and mud on the bottom of the tide, so launch and retrieve on the top half.
Council upgraded the ramp in 2020 under the same contract as the Victor Creek car park works, and in early 2022 fitted solar LED lighting and CCTV at the ramp and car park as part of a seven-ramp security program. If you want two lanes and a floating walkway, the Grasstree Beach ramp on the north bank is the one to use.
Out of the creek the water is the Sarina coast: Cape Palmerston, the shoals and islands offshore, mackerel and coral trout when the weather allows, and barramundi, salmon and crabs in the creek. Marine Rescue Queensland Mackay monitors VHF 16. Crocodiles are present; stinger season is October to May.
