Wilson Beach is the small settlement just before Conway Beach at the end of Conway Road, about 30 km from Proserpine. Its ramp drops into the Proserpine River close to the mouth, and it is one of the four ramps Whitsunday Regional Council owns outright. It is a basic concrete ramp for tinnies and small trailer boats: no walkway, no toilets, no water, and parking that amounts to whatever roadside room is free.
The river runs hard here. Expect cross-currents on the ramp and wave action off Repulse Bay on the top of the tide, which is when a small boat is most likely to be pushed off line. The register lists the ramp as tide-limited, so it is mud at the bottom of a big low. Anyone with a heavier boat should use the Conway Road ramp a few kilometres upstream, which has a floating walkway and 75 bays.
This is crocodile water. The Proserpine River is known for its saltwater crocodiles as much as for its barramundi, mangrove jack and salmon; keep hands and dogs out of the water at the ramp and do not wade to launch.
