Midge Point sits on the southern shore of Repulse Bay, about 60 km south of Airlie Beach and 90 km north of Mackay, at the bottom end of the Whitsunday Passage. For years the only real launch in the district was the private ramp at Laguna Quays, and when that closed after Cyclone Debbie in 2017 the locals were left with a rough informal ramp on the beach at Jimmy's Rocks Road, the site the state register still describes.

Transport and Main Roads replaced it. Australian Marine and Civil won the $1.55 million construction contract in April 2021 for a new two-lane ramp with a 120 metre access causeway, designed around wave and tide modelling for the exposed site with rock armour sized for 2070 conditions. It was completed in October 2021 at a total project cost of $3 million. There is no floating walkway, and parking is on the unformed ground above the ramp.

Repulse Bay is shallow and muddy on the ebb, and although the causeway carries you further out than the old ramp, plan on the tide rather than assuming all-tide access, and the local Facebook group is still called "Midge Point All Tide Boat Ramp" for a reason.
