Pinkenba is the industrial suburb on the north bank of the Brisbane River below the Gateway Bridge, and the Kirra Street ramp sits among the fuel depots and warehouses at the end of Tingira Street. It drops straight into deep water (the state register lists it as usable on all tides), with a car park of about 26 bays and no toilets, water or lighting. The register records a single lane; boating guides describe it as four lanes with a pontoon up the middle, and users as a basic ramp without pontoons, so expect something between the two and check before you commit a wide rig.
Its virtue is position: it is the last ramp before the river mouth, with the port, the Boat Passage and the bay a short run downstream, and the Gateway reach, Colmslie and the city upstream. Ships, tugs and pilot boats use this reach; keep out of the channel and off the wharves, and observe six knots near the moorings. Bream, flathead, jew and threadfin salmon are caught along the walls and the Pinkenba fuel jetties.
The Whyte Island ramp on Port Drive is the bay-side alternative when it is open. Marine Rescue Queensland Brisbane monitors VHF 16.
