The Freeman Road ramp is the larger of Toorbul's two Esplanade launches: two concrete lanes at a ten per cent grade with a floating walkway, toilets and a tap, and a shared car park of about 34 bays. The walkway was a ,000 state project announced in May 2015 and built over the winter, to speed up launching and retrieving and to double as a viewing platform over the Passage. The state register lists the ramp as usable on all tides, which the walkway's reach helps with; the flats either side still dry on a low spring, so follow the markers out.
The Passage here is the middle stretch between the bridge and Donnybrook, sheltered but shallow, with Bribie's national park beaches across the channel and go-slow zones for dugong over the seagrass. Flathead, whiting, bream and crabs; the foreshore kangaroos are the other attraction.
