Fig Tree Pocket is a leafy riverside suburb in Brisbane's west, and its ramp on Fig Tree Pocket Road is a small one: a single concrete lane at an eight per cent grade with a tap and about five bays. The state register lists it as usable on all tides, and the river is deep off the bank, though the western reaches run low and thin after a long dry spell and high and fast after rain.
It suits tinnies and kayaks. The river here is the same water as Jindalee across the way (flat, sheltered, no bar), with ski zones marked on the wider reaches and six knots near moorings, bridges and swimmers. Bass, catfish and bream, with the rock walls and deeper holes near the Centenary Bridge the productive spots at first and last light.
Jindalee (Mt Ommaney Drive) opposite has two lanes and a pontoon; Sir John Chandler Park at Indooroopilly is downstream. Marine Rescue Queensland Brisbane covers the river on VHF 16.
