Sir John Chandler Park is the big riverside reserve at Long Pocket, on the northern bank of the Brisbane River below the Indooroopilly bridges, and its ramp is one of the eight river and recreation hubs council lists. A single concrete lane at a ten per cent grade with a pontoon, toilets and a tap, and parking on the unmarked ground in the park. The state register flags it as tide-limited, which on this reach means the mud at the foot of the ramp on a low spring rather than any lack of river.
The reach is sheltered, with rowing crews and ski boats sharing it on weekends, and it is small-boat water: bream, bass and catfish along the walls, and the long run downstream through the city or upstream past Fig Tree Pocket and Jindalee. Six knots applies near the ramp, the bridges, moorings and swimmers.
Jindalee upstream has two lanes and 13 bays; South Brisbane downstream has two lanes. Marine Rescue Queensland Brisbane covers the river on VHF 16.
