Howard Street ends at a small ramp onto the western Broadwater between Hollywell and Runaway Bay. It is a single narrow lane with a sandy beach alongside, ten parking bays and nothing else: no wharf, no toilet, no water. Its particular problem is sand: the beach blows across the concrete on any breeze, so the ramp is often part-covered and slippery, and it is open to the wind and chop from the north and east.
Reviewers put it at the bottom of the Gold Coast list, and the sensible use is a jet ski or a small boat behind a four-wheel drive that can cope with the sand. The state register lists it as usable on all tides, though the flats off this shore are thin at low water.
Anything larger should use Paradise Point, a few minutes north, or the Spit ramps. Marine Rescue Queensland Southport monitors VHF 16 and 73.
