Learmonth Street runs north from the Strathpine shopping centre for six or seven hundred metres to a park on the South Pine River, and the ramp is there: a single concrete lane at an eight per cent grade with toilets and about five bays. It is the highest public ramp on the South Pine, well above the junction with the North Pine at Lawnton. The state register lists it as usable on all tides, but the river is narrow, shallow at the edges and quick to rise after rain, so it is a tinnie, canoe and kayak launch.
The reach is sheltered and tree-lined, with bream, jack and the odd bass in the snags, mud crabs in the side creeks, and a long, winding run downstream past Barungwarra and Deep Water Bend to Bramble Bay. Six knots applies through the river.
Deep Water Bend (Wyampa Road, Bald Hills) is the nearest ramp with lanes, a pontoon and real parking. No marine rescue cover on the upper river; emergency is 000.
